Introduction
Surkhet is one of the five districts of Bheri Zone in the mid-hill region of Nepal. Surkhet, the headquarters of the Mid-Western Development Region, extends from 80059' to 8202' east longitude and 28020' to 28058' north latitude. The district ranges from 198 meters to 2367 meters above sea level. The district has an area of 2451 sq km, according to the Department of Statistics. And according to the LRMP, 2490 sq km. The district receives an average annual rainfall of 1700 mm (Employees Meeting Centre, Surkhet, 2008) with a minimum temperature of 0.50C in winter (January 5, 2004) and a maximum of 41.80C in summer (June 18, 2005). The northern part of the district consists of Mahabharat from east to west, Bheri river in the middle and plains along the river, and the Churiya range in the south.
